What Are Invisalign Clear Aligners?
Invisalign clear aligners are a type of orthodontic treatment used to straighten teeth and correct various dental issues such as misalignment, crowding, and gaps between teeth. Unlike traditional braces, which use metal brackets and wires, Invisalign treatments include a series of clear, plastic trays that gradually move teeth into their desired positions by applying pressure. Invisalign aligners are virtually invisible when worn, making them a preferred choice for discreet orthodontic treatment.
Since Invisalign aligners are removable, maintaining oral hygiene can be easier than with traditional braces. You can brush and floss normally, reducing the risk of tooth decay and gum disease during treatment. Since the clear aligners are removable, you won't need to change your diet, making them very easy and convenient to wear.
Why Straighten My Teeth?
There are many benefits of straight teeth beyond aesthetic appeal. Straighter teeth allow for fewer dental complications and appear more attractive overall. Our dentist has the skills and experience to treat your teeth with clear aligners. Here are some common issues our dentist can address using clear aligners:
- Crowding: When the jaw has insufficient space for teeth to erupt properly, they may become crowded. Invisalign aligners can gradually move crowded teeth into their correct positions.
- Crooked Teeth: Clear aligners can effectively straighten teeth that are crooked or misaligned, improving their alignment and overall appearance.
- Overbites: An overbite occurs when the upper front teeth overlap excessively with the lower front teeth. Our dentist can use clear aligners can help fix overbites by moving the upper teeth back or the lower teeth forward.
- Open Bites: An open bite occurs when the upper and lower teeth do not meet when biting down, leaving a gap between them. We can help close open bites by moving the teeth into the correct position for proper alignment.
- Crossbites: In a crossbite, some of the upper teeth fit inside the lower teeth when biting down. Invisalign clear aligners can correct crossbites, giving you a healthier and more uniform bite.
- Underbites: An underbite occurs when the lower front teeth protrude past the upper front teeth. Our team can address underbites with clear aligners, gradually shifting the lower teeth backward or the upper teeth forward.
- Unwanted Gaps: Our Invisalign treatment can close small to moderate gaps between teeth by gently applying pressure and shifting them closer over time.
Our Clear Aligners Process
Our dentist begins your teeth alignment process with a consultation, where we assess if clear aligners are suitable for you. After our dentist finds you a candidate for clear aligners, we take digital impressions that we can use to design and create your aligner trays. You will wear each set of trays for two weeks, gradually allowing them to shift your teeth into new positions. The aligner trays should be worn for at least 22 hours a day, and our dentist will check your movement every two weeks to ensure your teeth are adjusting according to plan.
After your treatment, we'll provide you with a Vivera® retainer to keep your teeth aligned and prevent unwanted movement. The Vivera retainer is composed of similar materials to your aligners, making it an easy transition. The retainer material is hard and sturdy, lasting five years with proper care. By wearing your Vivera retainer as instructed by our dentist and maintaining regular checkups, you can enjoy the benefits of a straighter smile for years to come.
